Welcome to Hanes
Fron-goch History
‘Hanes Fron-goch History’ building was built
between 2020 and 2022 to replace an
exhibition set up in 2016 in an agricultural style
building on the site of the Welsh Whisky
Distillery which was demolished in 1934. The
exhibition was set up prior to an event in Fron-
goch to commemorate 100 years since over
1,800 Irishmen were interned there following
the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916.
Following the distillery going into liquidation
around 1900 the building was used as an
internment camp for German soldiers
between 1915 and 1919 during WW1 and
Irishmen in 1916.
The site was later used as a caravan site for the
workers on the Celyn Reservoir.
